In cases where reuse of the treated water is required, either for irrigation or other uses, tertiary treatment is applied. At this stage of treatment, residual organic/inorganic colloids and suspended solids, dissolved organic matter and biological agents (bacteria, viruses, etc.) can be removed. The elimination of suspended solids is carried out by filtration processes, while disinfection is carried out by chlorination, UV rays and ozonation.
